If all one caught was a glimpse, they might mistake Hasret for any other soldier on leave, drifting between deployments. But one word from her mouth marks Hasret as an outlander to Eorzea. Their accent is something close to Hannish, but their mannerisms mark them as a woman raised in the iron grip of the five-decade Imperial occupation across the water. They speak Eorzean common well, but are notably more articulate in the Garlean tongue.A jagged scar from perhaps a claw or a blade presents onlookers with a lingering glimpse of the fight that blinded them in their right eye. Their body too is marked by war: they are shaped for strength rather than for looks, from their wide tree-trunk arms to their soft, broad belly. Their extensive musculature is only visible to the eye when in use.Their face is sharp-featured, with a hawkish nose and strong brows. But their round cheeks soften the impression, and their eyes even moreso. The one still visible is a warm, captivating brown framed by long, elaphine lashes. If they could manage to stop smiling that lopsided, good-natured smile for more than a few moments, perhaps they could be intimidating enough to startle someone. But as they are, it seems unlikely-- and they flinch at fear, especially when directed towards them. They are in their fighting prime, but they are far from well-equipped. Their armor has gone unrepaired for far too long, from their faded leathers to their dented platemail. At least their clothing is still as bright as one might expect, despite their preference for dark colors and understated, masculine styles. They can often be found wearing a loose, simple tunic with pops of embroidery in the colorful styles of southern Corvos and northern Thavnair.

History
Even the legal name of Hasret aan Pyreus is a testament to their history. Hasret's first name is most common in the communities nestled against the pink sand beaches of the Corvos Narrow, both in southern Corvos and northern Thavnair. But although their given name is their own, their surname is as Garlean as they come. The province of Locus Amoenus was under Garlean control for longer than many others, and that iron grip held on far more tightly. Hasret is far too young to have ever seen the free, thriving Corvos of the stories. They were born into the hands of a Garlean medicus, and there they stayed. For lack of a family name untouched by Garlean occupation, they have taken to using the Hannish convention in the last few months. Those who met them prior would never have known it, but those who meet them now would hear them introduce themself as Hasret bihn Murad.Only the burning skies of the Final Days over the Bounty had the power to change their lot. As Hasret tells it, the raw despair of Locus Amoenus kindled and lit, and the resulting catastrophe made the flames of Thavnair look like a comforting campfire. They cannot speak to the specifics of how and why this happened, but they are living proof that it did. Although they are willing to discuss the Final Days, they are unwilling to go into much detail. The same is true of the vast majority of their life. Hasret is a charmer, dodging questions easily and answering only as much as they mean to. Only someone with access to Garlean records would be able to investigate the nature of Hasret's life in Locus Amoenus. Much of their work was classified, restricting access to officers in the same sector of the same Legion. Despite the implied importance of their service, their name speaks to its result. Locus Amoenus burnt before Hasret would ever have been considered for citizenship.Like many others, Hasret arrived in Eorzea in the months following the catastrophe. They've been on the move ever since, unable to settle down in one place for more than a few weeks. Just recently, she has settled in Ul'dah with a daughter in tow -- a girl of scant more than ten summers, with her mother's dark eyes and warm smile. The girl, Renata, is here to study with the Thaumaturges' Guild, and Hasret is here to find a way to support them both.An OOC note: details may be reworked if we get more Corvosi lore! I tend to use a lot of Hannish concepts until I know my headcanons work for the other writer.
HOOKS
Alms and Aids
Not even four seasons' time has passed since Hasret has arrived in Eorzea. Their stay has not been profitable, and they have often been reduced to accepting the charity of others or doing menial tasks in exchange for food or shelter. They are more than qualified to work as a mercenary, but something prevents them from joining a company for a stable income. Perhaps you've offered them a hot meal or a warm bed.
Home Away From Home
Like most other people from the newly freed nation of Corvos, Hasret was previously conscripted into the service of the Garlean Empire. As it is Garlean policy not to assign conscripts within their homelands, Hasret has spent a great deal of time in Eorzea. An Ala Mhigan character may have met them, but you may not recognize them now...
Academic Interests
Hasret has often been a patron of mages' shops and the mages who run them. She has a budding interest in the ancient city-states of Eorzea, especially Amdapor and Mhach. She's never able to afford the asking price for the tomes she wants, but she is often in possession of niche reagents that can be bartered instead. Oddly enough, despite her scholarly pursuits, she is a poor reader and a worse writer.
Wine and Women
Perhaps one of the reasons Hasret hasn't settled down in Eorzea is their tendency not to save much of their earnings. Instead, she often finds herself at bars and dance halls teaching new friends the steps to dances from across the sea. Perhaps you shared drinks once upon a time. It's rare for Hasret to run into the same people twice, but not unheard of...

OOC
Hi! I'm Griff. I'm 27 and I use he/they OOC. Thanks for reading Hasret's carrd! This page has a little bit about me, my style, and my preferred genres and themes.I'm available M-F after 5pm CST, or anytime on weekends. I write short posts in groups and default to para / multipara in 1v1s. My OCs are generally lore-abiding and I'd like my RP partners' to be the same. That said, it's all rule of cool to me! I like to call my approach lore-expansive, because I love to do personal worldbuilding but I try to stay within the guardrails of the actual lore. The last item should be basic, but is worth saying explicitly: many of XIV's themes echo real-world issues, and I expect other writers to make a good-faith effort to be sensitive to that. I'll always try to assume the best of others, but I also reserve the right to disengage if OOC conduct, character design, or the scene itself is uncomfortable. Similarly, I do my best, but if I make a mistake and write something that plays into harmful stereotypes, I would like to know about it so that I can improve.I'm pretty friendly, if a bit of a bad texter, and I'm always happy to plot. Say hi sometime!
